How to Face Self Serving Pride

In John 1:19-28, the Jews send a group to interrogate John the Baptist, who is experiencing remarkable success in his ministry. They ask three questions and he issues three denials. His answers to their questions make it clear that John’s only motive is to point to Jesus Christ. He cares nothing for himself. John helps us to face our self-serving pride which hinders the work of God… our desires for the praises of men, our prayers to be exalted, our demands for our own ways, and our hope to receive the honor for ourselves. Instead, John points away from himself and calls his interrogators to look to the Lamb of God for everything.

He Takes Away the Sin

The message of the whole Bible is loaded into our text (John 1:29-34). These verses record one of the most dramatic moments in the history of redemption. It announces the only way to be free of the guilt of sin. It declares the global need for Jesus as the Lamb of God, for a sinful world. My whole objective in this message is to help us look very intently at one aspect of Jesus as, “the lamb of God.” There are literally hundreds of ways to look at Him, but today, I want to have a tightly focused look at Jesus as the “Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

The Homeschool Fitting-It-All-In Summit

This spring, I’m pleased to be a featured speaker with Homeschool Summits for the Homeschool Fitting-It-All-In Summit, a free event hosted online this April 30-May 5. You can watch my interview on May 5th at 1:00pm EST. I hope you’ll join us! You can register now at www.HomeschoolSummits.com/Fitting.

If you ever feel like you're spinning your wheels, trying to stay on top of all the choices and activities that come your way as a homeschool parent, then this is for you. It’s a week dedicated to helping you decide what matters to your family, create a workable homeschool plan, and keep your path centered on the eternal – even when life happens.

Most importantly, each video from this event will focus on the truth found in God’s Word and the hope that lies in trusting in Jesus Christ for today and for the future.

All of the video interviews with speakers (like myself) bring a Christ-centered focus to these important steps on your way to learning how to fit it all in:

  1. Charting Your Course: Learn how to change your perspective to match God's view as revealed in His Word.
  2. The Homeschool Gameplan: Get insight into academic necessities and how to make sure they can realistically work out in your homeschool.
  3. Home Management Strategies: Find out how to keep household duties running smoothly in the midst of schooling, and come away with specific action items to make changes beginning tomorrow.
  4. Building Your Team: Discover the beauty of a family working together to build God's kingdom and how to keep relationships healthy for maximum joy from parents down to little ones.
  5. Eternal Priorities: Reorient yourself to stick to the mission of following Christ, leading your children to Him, and influencing others for the Gospel.

The entire event free if you sign up by April 30th, and in addition to the video content, you’ll also get access to an easy-to-search online vendor hall (with exclusive discounts and freebies) and a private Facebook group to connect with speakers and other attendees.

I encourage you to sign up today for the Homeschool Fitting-It-All Summit for a week of valuable wisdom and Christ-centered hope so you can conquer your homeschool overwhelm.

Washed in His Righteousness

My fellow Elder, Mike Davenport recently preached a wonderful summary message of the book of James, “The Lord Our Righteousness,” where he explained how the righteousness of Jesus Christ fulfilled all of the ethical and behavioral commands in James. We felt one wave after another of the mercy of God in sending His Son to be our righteousness. Following the sermon, I preached a short Lord’s Supper message entitled, “Washed in His Righteousness.”

Everything from Heaven

Before us is the longest running discourse of John the Baptist where he is commenting about losing his following. In doing so, he gives us four of the most powerful truths man can know in the phrases, “a man can receive nothing unless it is given him from heaven,” “He must increase, but I must decrease,” He “rejoices greatly because of the bridegrooms voice,” and “He who believes in the Son has life.”
