The Kind of Civil Leaders We Need Today

Today I’m taking the NCFIC interns and my family to my Vernon. As we enter into the season of political races and decisions about who to vote for, the most important consideration is, “What does the Bible say about what qualifies a civil leader?” I saw an illustration of this while at Mt. Vernon at the grave of Bushrod Washington, the President’s nephew. He was a U.S. Supreme Court associate justice from 1798 to 1829. This is the kind of civil leader the Bible says we should promote. Here is what was written on his grave stone:

As a Judge, he was
Wise and Just.
“A man of Truth, hating
Firm in every honour-
-able purpose and pursuit.
Yet gentle, humane and
A sincere Christian.
Doing in all things the
will of his Master.
And resting his hope of
eternal happiness.
Alone on the righteousness
of Jesus Christ.

Relentlessly Call Abortion What It Really Is

John Bloom speaks graphically and accurately on a matter that we need to keep in mind as we work and pray for the end of abortion in our land. His article, Relentlessly Call Abortion What it Really Is” strikes to the heart of the matter,

The killing of children can be tolerated and even championed as a social good so long as we don’t call it what it is. Call abortion an individual’s right to privacy and you can write it into the legal code. Call abortion a compassionate choice offered to a frightened girl to save her future or to save a child from an undesirable quality of life and you can swing popular opinion. Call abortion a liberation of women from the social and economic oppression of male dominance and passionate people will march on capitols chanting demands to preserve the human right of abortion on-demand.

He continues,

We have allowed legal child-killing on-demand for 41 years because we’ve called it something else… Here’s the point: truthful tongues save lives. Legalized abortion is an evil that occurs and is tolerated because of deceptive words. And it’s truthful words that are required to clear the fatal fog with clarity.”

This is why we must call abortion what it is – murder.

Churchill on Success – Stumbling From Failure to Failure

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”
― Winston Churchill

Also here is Calvin Coolidge on the importance of a related topic, persistence:

“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan Press On! has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.”

Introducing the Gen2 Survey

Here is a survey from our friends at Generations with Vision:

The Gen2 Survey

After 30 years of following the homeschool movement, we’ve learned something about homeschool graduates’ academic and socio-economic successes through various studies. But what about the spiritual condition of this first generation of home education? How did we do? Where are our children today? What were the educational, cultural, relational, and spiritual influences in their lives? From all reports, the millennial generation is less committed to a Christian worldview; they’re leaving the institutional church; and they are the most narcissistic, the laziest, the most unsuccessful, and the most spiritually bankrupt generation ever.* So… what about our children? What is the condition of our homeschool graduates? What happened to those children raised in Christian homes—however they were schooled—back in the 80s and 90s? Where are they now?

Introducing. . . The Gen2 Survey.

We have released the Gen2 Survey for every young person between 18-38 years of age, whether they are Christian, Non-Christian, Public Schooled, Private Schooled, or Home Schooled. The survey is anonymous (there is no tracing of answers to sources). It will take 10-20 minutes to complete, and each participant enters a contest to win one of THREE I-PAD MINIs!

Mankiller Chronicles: Couples Who Put Off Parenthood Is at an All Time High

A fearful people – that’s who we are as Americans. We are afraid of almost everything – the terrorists, the social security, the food, the economy, and even having children. We have become a very fearful people. Allison Linn, a CNBC reporter in USA Today, declares, “The early years of adulthood are supposed to be a time of optimism and hope, but for many Americans now in their 20s it has instead been a period of uncertainty and frustration.”

What is the cause of all this?

Hobbled by student loan debt, frustrated by careers that have been stymied by a weak job market — and frightened by watching their own parents suffer financial setbacks — many say they feel like they are getting off to a slow start. Even as the economy improves, that’s left some Millennials wondering if they’ll ever feel financially comfortable enough to have kids of their own.

The American Dream is … OK, we go to school, we graduate, we get good jobs, we buy a house, we have kids,” said Daniel Flores, 27. “And it’s just like none of that has happened.

So what happens is that fear takes over and parenthood is delayed. (more…)

Generation Cool: Self-Obsessed Millennials Having So Much Fun

The BBC ran this story, profiling two millennial generation 29-year-olds, “We will not be a great generation,” says Gray. “We are too self-absorbed, spending most of our time on frivolous things, like posting photos of ourselves. We are cool kids, we are the cool generation.”
Adam Gray and Sam Fuchs are 29-year-old digital artists and founders of the Hella More Funner collective in San Francisco.

They spend hours searching the internet for images, which they then use to create huge collages of the online world.

Their work resembles what late-medieval artist Hieronymus Bosch might have painted had he had an internet connection and photo editing software.

“Everyone’s sort of mentally obese,” explains Fuchs, commenting on the overload of images and possibilities we are exposed to every day online. “I feel like distraction has a big part to do with our generation’s story.”

Hella More Funner artwork celebrates human relationships in the age of social media, while at the same time revealing their darker undertones.

“We will not be a great generation,” says Gray. “We are too self-absorbed, spending most of our time on frivolous things, like posting photos of ourselves. We are cool kids, we are the cool generation.”

The Problem With 17-Year-Olds Who Hang Around 17-Year-Olds

Time Magazine recently came out with an article,“The New Greatest Generation”, contending that the idea of seventeen year olds hanging out with seventeen-year olds is a bad idea.

This is why, in every place we went on our tour to Australia and New Zealand, we gave the messages attacking the notions of youth culture and entertainment. We called our messages, “Preparing Boys for Battle and Girls for Dominion,” particularly in view of the fact that, worldwide, youth are caught in a culture of play and non-achievement…their main achievement is to adore themselves. Love for God has been replaced by love of entertainment. When they move into young adulthood, love for children has been replaced with love of toys. We said over and over again, “We were meant to work with tools not play with toys… This message is needed all over the world as the global youth scene is being pickled in its narcissism. We pleaded with our hearers to stop playing games; stop being entertained; stop hanging out; stop adoring yourself and get to work doing something that has meaning. The society at large is no help at all… being content to put young people in educational institutions where they sit at desks for 18 years and have nothing to show for it except a diploma. It should take our breath away.

Even Time Magazine has recognized this reality that exists in the Millinial generation which consists of those born between 1980 and 2000. (more…)

Celebrate Memorial Day

Storming the shores of Normandy, huddling on the frozen landscape at Valley Forge, advancing on the island of Iwo Jima in the Pacific theater – throughout the history of our nation, God has given us examples of sacrifice, bravery, determination, and resolute action that we must consider and give thanks for the many ways in which God has chosen to bless us with freedom.

My father – William Brown – was one of those men. These books, in this bundle, help remember his story and the story of others who fought in one of our nation’s wars – World War II.

Two Great Scams of the Kermit Gosnell Case

Note: This video shows abortion clinic workers reporting on what was happening in their clinic – not the Gosnell clinic, but in another state. Please use discretion in viewing this video, as it contains graphic explanations of what was happening in the clinic.

There are two ways in which the murder conviction of Kermit Gosnell is one of the great legal and public relations scams of the century.

First of all, it was a legal scam because the he murdered thousands but was only prosecuted for three murders. Every single baby he aborted, whether it was six weeks or thirty weeks was a brutal killing since it is no secret that life begins at conception. It is a scam to pretend that only some abortions are murder.

Second, it is a public relations scam because what he was doing is happening everyday in abortion clinics and the press makes it seem that what was happening was an isolated case. See the evidence here that Kermit Gosnell is not an Outlier. The conviction gives the perception that somehow there are abortion clinics practicing murder and then there are those which are not; some are horrific and some are not; some are grisly and some are not, when in fact, all abortion clinics kill babies and the problem is not that a clinic is dirty and unkempt, and some of the babies were older, but that babies were being killed.

These scams, both legal and public relations, are the kinds of scams that dull the consciences of the American public, while pleasing the abortion rights crowd and the Obama administration.

Another Blast from the Culture of Death

Albert Mohler speaks up for the unborn, as he has so many times, in this article, Thrown Over the Fence — Infanticide, Canadian Style. He ends the piece with these chilling words:

Mark this well — the horrific logic of this judge’s decision will not remain in Canada. Indeed, it did not even start in Canada. Those arguments are already in place in the United States. If we will not defend life in the womb, eventually the dignity of every single human life is thrown over the fence.

14% of All Dutch Deaths Involve Euthanasia, Assisted Suicide

If you have been watching the news over the past two decades relating to the Netherlands’ rising culture of death, you would see it keeps trending upward and reaching new areas. Even children are being euthanized there now, and the age threshold keeps dropping.

The author of this Life News article concludes with this, “If the USA legalized euthanasia and had a similar killing count, the total number of doctor-administered deaths would be over 300,000 annually!” Christians have a way to think this through via one of the Ten Commandments – “Thou shalt not kill.” It is one of many verses in Scripture where God condemns this practice.

How to Defend the Sanctity of Life from Scripture

In the film, Whatever Happened to the Human Race?, Francis Schaeffer rightly said, “The sanctity of life did not come from nowhere.” He went on to declare that it came from the Bible.

So how do you use the Bible to defend the sanctity of life?  One of the gifts we need to pass on to the next generation is a firm remembrance of the sanctity of life. If we do not help the younger generation memorize the central passages of Scripture, they will not have the intellectual strength to resist the tide of tyranny against the unborn. Abortion is an attack on the entire Bible. In the Law, the Prophets, the Poetic Books, the Pauline Epistles, and the Gospels, we find evidence of the sacredness of life in the womb and the sovereignty of God at work in conception. Scripture makes it clear that there should be equal protection under the law for life in the womb.

The following passages of Scripture are key in building a biblical understanding of abortion and the sanctity of life. They are organized under the following headings: Life, Murder, Our Duty, and the Blessing of Children. (more…)

How the World’s Greatest Explorers Dream Scuttled – the Defining Nature of Small Mistakes

Used with Permission from The Coldest Journey/Photo by Ian Prickett

After five years of preparation, a 68-year-old adventurer, Ranulph Fiennes, has been forced to pull out of what is known as, “The Coldest Journey on Earth.” While this high-powered title might sound like hype, it’s not. No one has ever walked across Antarctica in winter. Doing so is hard to beat in terms of adversity – near permanent darkness, howling winds, zero support systems or people anywhere, and lethally cold temperatures. Check out the gargantuan financial and logistical efforts necessary for this expedition. Why the pullout? One small error! The BBC reports: (more…)

The Poison Pill That Was the Sexual Revolution

Hollywood does not like to talk about her dead. She wants to look so sunny on the outside, but really, the dead are there. The evidence of this is everywhere. Here are 25 signs American Women are Being Destroyed by the Sexual Revolution that appeared at The American Dream:

Has the sexual revolution been good for American women?  Not at all.  In fact, when you look at the facts it becomes clear that the sexual revolution has been an absolute disaster for American women.  In the United States today, men have been trained to primarily view women as sex objects, and our culture has become exceedingly promiscuous.  As a result, the United States leads the world in teen pregnancy, there are 19 million new STD infections every single year, more than half of all children born to women under the age of 30 are being born out of wedlock and we are witnessing the systematic breakdown of the family unit in America.  And yet anyone that tries to teach our young women that they should dress modestly and keep themselves pure for marriage is severely criticized.  Well, if all Americans actually did keep themselves pure until marriage, we wouldn’t have nearly the problems with STDs, teen pregnancy and abortion that we do today.  The consequences of teaching our young women that they should be “free” to run around and sleep with a whole bunch of different men have been dramatic.  The following are 25 signs that American women are being destroyed by the sexual revolution and our promiscuous culture… (more…)
