Why Would Anyone Want to Marry You?

It is almost time for the Father Son Retreat, which is October 3-4 (Friday afternoon-Saturday) at the Brown Farm. This year the focus is preparing sons for manhood. We are going to say that sons are tested by those they meet. We want to ask sons, “Are you becoming a man or a boy?”  We are going to ask, “Why would anyone want to marry you?” In order to do this we are going to identify different challenges that boys meet. They are tested by meeting The HarlotThe LionThe Bald ManThe FatherThe Shepherd, and The Maiden.

Cost: For those who are not frequent attenders of Hope Baptist or Sovereign Redeemer, pricing is as follows:

Individual: $40 per person.
Family: $100.

For clarity, the individual rate is more economical for a father and one son, while the family rate is more economical for a father with multiple sons.

To register, please email the name of each person attending, along with the age of each son, to Alan Hillman at 5arrowsrvn@gmail.com.

Bringing Many Sons to Glory

By the end of the year, we will have completed eleven Master’s Plan for Fatherhood conferences around the nation. Here is a clip from the Wake Forest meeting we had last week. During these conferences, we have spoken of the various ways God has ordained fathers to dedicate their best energies to the whole purpose of fatherhood: to bring many sons and daughters to glory. Hebrews 2:9-10 gives us this powerful language of fatherhood, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone. For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.”

Why Your Family Should Come to the Worship of God Conference

Join me on Sunday at Eastside Baptist Church in Twin Falls Idaho

I have the privilege of preaching at Eastside Baptist Church, where my friend Paul Thompson is a pastor. It’s great to be in this agricultural center where potatoes are king and Evel Knievel jumped the Snake River many years ago. But now, we call men out of the couch potato mode and into the nexus of biblical courage – “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Today and tomorrow I will also be conducting one of our Master’s Plan for Fatherhood conferences

Building God Centered Families and Churches in the South Island of New Zealand

Preaching at Calvary Chapel Christchurch

After the long flights from North Carolina, we landed in Christchurch and were immediately transported to the venue and started speaking right away. The best way to deal with jet lag is to just act like it does not exist and charge on and pray you don’t fall asleep while on the platform in mid-sentence. A local church in Christchurch, Calvary Chapel Christchurch, anchored the event and got the word out around the island. It was such a joy and privilege to be with the people there.

I gave the first message establishing the theme of the conference, Building a God-Centered Family. Throughout the day, Kevin Swanson and I continued to build on this subject, speaking on marriage, fatherhood, discipleship of children, building family economies, and the dangers of syncretism with the culture.

We were all encouraged as we left this first event. Though there are very few family-integrated churches in New Zealand, God has ignited a fire in the hearts of a few men, and they are passionately leading the charge in this critical reformation. Please pray for God’s hand of strength and blessing upon these families and for the multiplication of this work in New Zealand.
