Article XXI – Judgment Begins With the Church

We affirm that God has declared “judgment must begin at the house of God” and thus, we Christians are to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, looking to judge ourselves lest we be chastened all the more (1 Peter 4:175:6).

We deny/reject that the church should continue disobeying God and delay repentance and reformation, or that she will escape the wrath of God for where the church has contributed to the disintegration and destruction of the family by ignoring or taking lightly biblical roles and responsibilities.

The Definition of Holiness

In this video, Joel Beeke defines holiness as: becoming more set apart unto God, and becoming less like the world. God is greatly concerned for our holiness, and He will continue to remove the dross in our lives, until we are made spotless on that glorious day at the marriage feast of the Lamb. As we make our ways through this life as God’s children, we will always be becoming more set apart unto God.

To hear more from Joel Beeke on holiness, come to the Highway of Holiness conference, Oct. 29-31 at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, NC.

What Does Holiness Look Like?

What does holiness look like? In this video, Craig Houston points us to the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. These are fruits that are to be desired by true Christian, and they want more of them in their life! The Christian living in holiness is living a Spirit-filled life, not a self-righteous and legalistic one.

To hear more from Craig Houston on the topic of holiness, come to the Highway of Holiness conference, Oct. 29-31 at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, NC.

The Lord Disciplines Those He Loves

This weekend I’m in Kerrville Texas at the Love One Another conference put on by FORGE ministries. It’s such a privilege to speak on the love of God. I’ve learned a lot preparing for this conference, and from the messages we’ve heard already.

Here is a shot transcript from my keynote titled “The Lord Disciplines Those He Loves.”

I hope we can dissect our own trials and difficulties through the lens of the love of God. Maybe some of your trials have come upon you because of your own foolishness and pride, but God is so good, and His love is so great, that He would even use your sins and your pride for you, not against you. He causes all things to work together for the good of the called according to His purpose.

God is so good, He’s so loving! He’s such a kind Father, His Son is such a good Shepherd! He is so full of mercy!

A Conference on Love

I am in Texas this weekend speaking at a very unique conference hosted by FORGE Ministries titled, “Love One Another.” It just occurred to me last night: I’ve never been to a conference that was specifically designed to cover what Scripture says about love. How strange it is.

I asked several people here at the conference, and I couldn’t find a single person who had been to a conference on love. True, biblical love is a central matter in the Christian life. It is the fulfillment of the law (Romans 13:10), it is as Paul said, “The greatest” (1 Corinthians 13:13).

So, I am very thankful to be here to hear messages on love, and to be changed by them. I’m also grateful to have the opportunity to deliver messages on this subject. My three speeches are on the topics of: “God’s Love in Discipline,” “Preserving Love Among the Brethren,” and “Diligent Love in the Home.” Then, on Sunday, I will be preaching here in Kerrville, TX.

Article XX – God Requires Examination

We affirm that God enjoins us to “prove all things; hold fast that which is good” and “let every man prove his own work,” particularly when the people of God are not thriving according to the biblical requirements (Rom. 12:2Gal. 6:4Eph. 5:10171 Thess. 5:21).

We deny/reject that elders who shepherd the flock of Christ have no need to carefully examine God’s infallible Word regarding their role in their own church, the beliefs and practices of their own church, and the roles and relations of families—husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, children, and individuals—to their own church.

God’s Holiness is Why We Worship

Why should we worship God? We worship God because He is holy! When someone comes into contact with the holiness of God, the response is to worship. Kevin Swanson points to Isaiah 6, and Isaiah’s response when he sees the holiness of God.

To hear more from Kevin Swanson on the subject of holiness, come to the Highway of Holiness conference in Asheville, NC at the Ridgecrest Conference Center, Oct. 29-31.

How Sanctification of a Believer Changes a Church

When God sanctifies a people, he convicts them of their sin, and then gives them a heart of repentance so that they repent of it. When God sanctifies a believer, it does have an affect on the church. Dan Horn in this video points to 1 Corinthians 12, where it talks about the church as a body. When one part of the body is sanctified, the other parts will change as well. Then when the church changes, the state will change as well. This is how God works.

To hear more from Dan Horn on the subject of holiness, come to the Highway of Holiness conference on Oct. 29-31 at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, NC.

The Sabbath – A Day for Delight!

In Scripture, the Sabbath is meant to be a day for delighting in the Lord, and gathering together with the people of God. It is common today to hear people argue that the Sabbath has been abolished. But what does Scripture actually say?

A few years ago, my fellow elder (Dan Horn) and I went through the major passages in Scripture that deal with the Sabbath and exposited them. When should the Sabbath be observed? What should our Sabbath days look like, and how are we supposed to conduct ourselves? How serious is it to break the Sabbath commandment?

All of these questions, and more, are answered in this series. I pray that these messages will be blessing to you, your family, and your church. God was so gracious and merciful to give us a day of rest from our labors, to picture our spiritual rest in the Lord Jesus Christ and our future eternal rest.

The Perseverance of the Saints

In chapter 17 of the confession, it speaks about how the true Christian will persevere to the end, “and be eternally saved.” How can we be certain that “whom He justified, these He also glorified” (Rom. 8:30)? It is because our perseverance is not based on us and what we do, rather it is based on: God’s election of a people to redeem, Christ’s atonement on behalf of His people and His intercession for them, “the oath of God, the abiding of his Spirit, and the seed of God within them, and the nature of the covenant of grace.”

Here is our session on chapter 17. I hope that this will be a blessing to you, your family, and your church as you are grounded in a biblical view of the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints!

Kentucky Clerk Sent to Jail for Simple Christian Perspective

Kim Davis, a clerk in Kentucky was just sent to jail because she would not issue a marriage license to two homosexuals. I don’t believe anything like this has happened in American history, where such a simple matter of Christianity was cause for imprisonment.

For more information go to http://ift.tt/1QbC19V

Christians are now put on notice that their view of marriage is not welcome in the public square. In this regard, Kim stated what Christians must uphold – a Christian conscience in our nation. She stated the issue succinctly in the form of a testimony,

“My conscience will not allow it,” she said. “God’s moral law convicts me and conflicts with my duties.”1

Article XIX – Satan is a Deceiver

We affirm the warning of Holy Scripture that since the Garden of Eden, Satan, the father of lies and deceiver of the brethren, has used and continues to use his subtle trickery to question God’s Word: “Yea, hath God said…?” (Gen. 3:1Matt. 4:6John 8:442 Cor. 11:314Rev. 12:9).

We deny/reject that God’s people, corporately or individually, should embrace and employ the unbiblical philosophies, goals, and methods of this fallen world in our churches and families, thus succumbing to Satan’s deception.

A Proud Heart and a Humble Christ are an Oxymoron

Joel Beeke, in this video, comments on a quote from John Calvin where it talks about how it is an oxymoron to say that one can be a follower of a humble Christ, yet has a proud heart. He asks an important question, “How can you stand at the cross, think about what your Savior did for you, and be proud?” He goes on further to say that are actually acting like an atheist when we are filled with pride.

To hear more on holiness from Dr. Joel Beeke, come to the Highway of Holiness conference Oct. 29-31 at the Ridgecrest Conference Center in Asheville, NC.

Paul Washer on the Beauty and Power of the Gospel

Paul Washer does a wonderful job of explaining the biblical Gospel, and what happens in the lives of those who are truly saved.

What is the Gospel? Scripture clearly declares that God is just and holy, and that man is fallen and sinful. God must punish a sinner for His sin, he cannot go against His attributes. Then how can a man be made right with God? Paul Washer in this video explains the biblical Gospel, and what happens in the lives of those who are truly saved by the Lord.
