Fear of God Devotional: Modesty – Adorned with Beautiful Holiness
How are we to grow in holiness?
In this video, Craig Houston describes one way we can strive to grow in holiness. Specifically, he discusses 1 Timothy 2 and 1 Peter 3 and explains they describe women who adorn themselves with godliness. Holiness is on display from the inside out – a woman should be adorned with a kind of holiness that comes from being wholly devoted to the Lord. With that devotion and that desire for holiness in the inner man, it naturally is evident outwardly. A revealing of the beauty of holiness.
Although this idea does involve clothing, it also has to do with how our life, in general, is adorned. The words we speak in life – they can bring life or death. All of that comes from inside. Instead of being focused on how we look or how we act, we should ask how our life is adorned with holiness coming from the inward man. How does it manifest itself on the outside? We should seek to walk in holiness and encourage our children to do the same.
1 Peter 3:3-4 (NKJV) – “Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God.”
