Fear of God Devotional: Three Elements of Repentance

What are elements of repentance?

Jason Dohm explains in this video that Proverbs 28:13 gives us a good definition of repentance: “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

There are three elements of repentance that can be extrapolated from the verse: the first element involves confessing sin and acknowledging that you have sinned. The second element involves the forsaking of sin. The third element of repentance is that it is a matter of the heart and involves a willingness to bring it to the light.

2 Timothy 2:22 (NKJV) – “Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.”
