Jeff Pollard: I Want to Be Like Jesus
We were all very grateful for what Jeff Pollard shared with us at the men’s luncheon regarding what was burning in his soul. He first quoted 1 John 3:2:
Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
“In our congregation, we sing a great hymn that says, ‘I long to be like Jesus; meek, loving, lowly, mild; I long to be like Jesus, the Father’s holy child.’
This is what is burning in my soul:

9. I want to take up Christ’s cross more willingly.
10. I want to obey Christ more joyfully.
11. I want to serve Christ more zealously.
12. I want to preach Christ more powerfully.
13. I want to love what Christ loves more wholeheartedly.
14. I want to hate what Christ hates more fiercely.
15. I want to experience the Holy Spirit more fully.
16. I want the filling of the Holy Spirit more repeatedly.
17. I want to study the Word of God more prayerfully.
18. I want to understand the Word of God more deeply.
19. I want to teach the Word of God more clearly.
20. I want to apply the Word of God more practically.
21. I want to love my wife like Christ – more self-sacrificingly.
22. I want to speak to my wife more gently.
23. I want to live God’s truth before my children more faithfully.
24. I want to know Christ’s sheep under my watch more intimately.
25. I want to serve Christ’s sheep under my watch more humbly.
