Formal Bio

Scott T. Brown is a pastor at Hope Baptist Church and the director of the National Center for Family-Integrated Churches, spending his time as an expository preacher and helping people think through the two greatest institutions God has provided — the church and the family. Scott graduated from California State University in Fullerton with a degree in History and received a Master of Divinity degree from Talbot School of Theology.

My message

My greatest desire is to preach the gospel, exalting the Lord Jesus Christ, explaining the beauty of His Kingdom, and calling hearers to turn to Christ.

The heart of my message is that Scripture is sufficient for “all things pertaining to life and godliness.”

You can review some of my messages on sermonaudio.com

Expository preaching as a priority

As a local church pastor, my focus is expository preaching. My greatest joy is to explain Scripture, word by word, line by line, chapter by chapter, section by section. I believe this is the greatest need of the hour for the modern church.

Often, when I speak to audiences outside my home town, at the request of those inviting me, my messages are not expository, but rather topical. However, I prefer to bring expository messages whenever I have the opportunity. It is my preference, but I’m also delighted to address various subjects that are requested.

Experience

When I speak, I’m bringing to the table experience from: 35 years of church leadership, 10 years of executive business management, and over three decades as a father. I have spoken in many churches across the country, in large event centers, in classrooms, in open air environments, in attics, cars and living rooms.

I have been involved in various forms of public speaking for over 35 years. I started as a young pastor fresh out of seminary in southern California where I fed the flock from Scripture. Later, I spent over a decade in sales and marketing and as a CEO. During that time, I focused on growing my leadership skills in the electronics manufacturing industry where I was thrust into many situations where public speaking was part of my role and was involved in church planting. I have started, built, and sold companies over the years and have enjoyed establishing organizations. I have spoken at seminaries, Bible colleges, church and family discipleship conferences, primarily focusing on subjects such as the gospel, the glory of God, various matters of ecclesiology, of biblical leadership in the church and the family. I have delivered many messages on church and family life, including messages on marriage, child discipline, family life, church order, church government, discipline, evangelism.

Church and Family Life

The topics that I often speak on when traveling are regarding church and family issues. These two institutions are the focus of almost everything that I do. I believe that the reformation of these two institutions, according to the Word of God, is the key to living faithfully in every generation.  I have messages on biblical manhood and womanhood, boyhood and girlhood, family life, and marriage, the complimentary role of church and family, family economics, preparing children for marriage, and child discipline. I absolutely love to speak with young people who are single to help them think through the use of their single years.

Here is a list of some of my messages:

The Greatest Untapped Evangelistic Opportunity Before the Modern Church

One of the most overlooked opportunities for evangelism in the modern American church lies right in our own homes – our children. In this message, I take parents and church leaders back to God’s Word to recover a biblical vision of gospel evangelism through discipleship.

A Biblical Case for Age-Integrated Discipleship

Age-integrated discipleship is not just a good idea or a better model, it is actually clearly laid out in Scripture as God’s model for passing on the knowledge that He has entrusted to us.

Church Killers

I have given this message in many churches around America to inspire unity and warn against the unseen dangers that lurk to destroy local churches.

The Complementary Roles of Church and Family

There is a beautiful and organic relationship that God has designed to exist between the two distinct and unique institutions of the family and the church. In this message, I cast a biblical vision for harmony between these two institutions, by identifying the clear distinctions of the God-given roles for each.

What Is a Family-Integrated Church?

I am asked this question all the time and have given this message all around the country to answer it. Simply put, a family-integrated church is a Christ-centered and Bible-saturated local body which models the biblical patterns of discipleship and worship. The Bible presents church life where the generations are together for discipleship and worship and are not fragmented into age or life-stage categories.

Profile of a Courageous Father – Joshua

Joshua is one of the most inspiring examples for the 21st-century father looking for a model of courage and leadership amidst a culture of compromise and self indulgence. In this message, I examine the life lessons of Joshua and cast a vision for today’s father to walk in his example of courage.

I have dozens of messages on fatherhood, and the profiles of fathers in the Bible as well as expositional messages on the great fatherhood passages in the Bible.

How Do I Become the Father God Wants Me to Be?

There are few things I get more excited about than dads who take their job seriously. And the only way to be serious about fatherhood is to go back to the blueprint that we have been given in God’s word. There are clearly laid out, achievable objectives that the Scripture gives us to know how to be faithful fathers in an unfaithful world.

Here are some message titles I give that are directed to young people:

  • Preparing Boys for Battle
  • What Does Jesus Say About Singleness?
  • How Single Young People Should Relate to One Another in the Church
  • Walking With Your Father
  • Redeeming the Time — Boys Who Take Dominion
  • The Heart of the Battle Between Fathers and Sons
  • Feminine by Design
