In Revelation 18:1-2, we read:
"After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, 'Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!'"
One day the world system of Babylon and Sodom will fall. In one sense, Babylon already fell when Jesus Christ was resurrected from the dead.
Revelation 18 gives us a PICTURE that points to reality.
Remember that the first three verses in Revelation tell us how to interpret the book. There, we learn that it is a book of symbols and pictures (and in these pictures, it is as if you are seeing one camera angle after another). Also, we remember that Revelation is a book that reveals Jesus Christ. Christ is on every page. For that reason, Revelation is designed to help us understand the world and the things that will continue happening until Christ returns.
In chapter 17, we see Babylon exposed. And in chapter 18, we see Babylon destroyed. This chapter declares the destruction of all of the the works of Satan.
This understanding should shape the way that we interpret history and culture.
